Squint Real Hard And You Can See Jack Courtside

Mr. Jarcy took me to last night's Lakers game as my birthday present. He had set up our friends to watch The Boy as well. Two Fridays in a row out with my husband without a baby? Mon dieu!

On our way in we walked by Calista Flockhart and her son and on the way out we walked by Calista Flockhart and her son. We also were seated directly across from Jack Nicholson, however, his seat was in the first row and ours was in the very top. (Even from 400 feet in the air he is impossible to miss.) Aside from the star gazing, it was a ton of fun and I'm so glad Mr. Jarcy made a night out possible. I must say though the nachos were not nearly as enjoyable as those found at Cubs or Bulls games back in Chicago. Mr. Jarcy thought these had more authentic, healthier chips and that is exactly why they weren't as tasty. I love those terribly salty numbers!

We got home around 11pm and The Boy was sprawled out across our friend's lap. They had put him to bed for awhile but in typical Boy fashion he was not going down for the night without seeing the whites of his parents' eyes. Even as our friends left he was popping up from near slumber all ready to party. He really takes after his mama.

Your Day Has Passed

Valentine's Day is over but not for these thrown away balloons. They're hovering about in our garbage shoot. A few times I've thought they'll descend with our trash but they're quite resilient and buoy themselves back up to the top floor. And now I'm starting to feel sorry for them. Why didn't their former owner pop them? Why won't I just pop them? None of us can bring ourselves to pull the trigger I guess.

I'd Take Gold In Power Shopping

Wow, is anyone else completely swept up in the Olympics? Even curling has gotten a considerable amount of airtime on my TV (even though I don't fully understand it). I'm looking back to see I didn't post for a week and my only excuse might be the copious amounts of time I have spent Olympic viewing. I can't even talk about the Canadian ice dancing pair or skater who's mother died without balling tears of joy and empathy. Unbelievable.

I did manage to pry my eyeballs from the screen long enough to do some power shopping this morning. The Boy scored big (of course). I bought him a pair of shoes, a pair of sandals and two swim trunk/SPF top combos. He's ready for the nice weather when it happens! Oh, who am I kidding? I live in LA so even when it's raining its still pretty nice...if you don't count the environmental pollutants. I'm also hosting a play group on Friday and stocked up on every food treat a child from the ages of 1-4 finds appealing. Our apartment is gonna be crammed with little children, it's gonna be nutso! Luckily The Boy has enough toys to occupy a daycare.

Babble On

This Boy has a lot to say. Unfortunately, we don't know what exactly. He babbles on like this throughout the day. And it is precious.

Babyproof Or Parentproof?

Babyproofing...ah, now this is a joke.  At least it has been for us.  I won't go too into this rather dull yet infuriating activity but here are some highlights--

Mr. Jarcy installed a toilet lid lock in one of our bathrooms per my request.  Unfortunately, I couldn't unlock it when I needed to pee at 3AM.  And since it's located in our main bathroom, I'm pretty sure we'll be explaining to every guest how to unlock it.

Mr. Jarcy tried to install two different gates to seal off the kitchen.  Unfortunately, one was so high that it also blocked my entry and neither was stable enough to withstand our little bruiser of a boy.  Gates need solid walls to really work and this entry is a little tricky.  So no gate will be erected and we'll continue to watch him like hawks.

Mr. Jarcy also tried to install a narrow gate onto an extremely narrow doorway but it just wasn't narrow enough.  This doorway is like an airplane bathroom's for god's sake!  You should have heard the groan of defeat Mr. Jarcy let out after a day of gate failure.  Poor guy.

I made fun of this cushiony helmet one of the baby sites sells and now it's looking like a viable option.  Quick, someone please take away my credit card before I place an order.

Star Sighting At Twain's

The Boy lunched out with his parents today.  I was craving food that is not good for the body but definitely good for the soul so that meant diner fare from down the street.  It's not easy dining with a one year old--well, nothing is easy while wrangling a one year old!--so you gotta come prepared with things to entertain.  Unfortunately, I was much more focused on eating and had only brought raisins and his cell phone to occupy the time.  Fortunately, a pair of sunglasses always seems to do the trick.

This kid is destined to be a star.  At least that's what his "creative-type" parents are secretly hoping will happen.  Someone's gonna have to pay the rent, you know! *

* I'm kidding of course, unless one of my blog readers is Steven Spielberg.  And if Steven Spielberg IS reading this, then maybe you'd be more interested in two hard-working "creative-type" parents instead?

Driving Green

  1. I buy biodegradable baby wipes from Walgreens.
  2. Then I go purchase biodegradable garbage bags from CVS.
  3. Organic, healthy foods and eco-friendly cleaning supplies are bought at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Ralph's and Target.

Wow, that is a lot of driving.  Does the fact I bring my own reusable bags count?  Eesh.

The News Strikes Again

Turned on the morning news today and this was on the TV--

If you can't see it clearly, it is 3 police officers with guns targeted at the backs of two men on an apartment's balcony.  I think the men are covered up by the "Live Breaking News" in the top left-hand corner.

Dear god!!!

I've posted before about my shock and awe over L.A.'s news coverage of real live drama.  Today's coverage seems to take the cake though.  Isn't anyone else concerned that this police standoff could end badly???!!!!  Unbelievable.

What's Next, The Vacuum?

The Boy grows tired of his toys so now we've ventured on to kitchen supplies. Today we found that a large plastic cup from Baja Fresh and Christmas cookie tins will engage a baby for quite some time. We've also discovered that nothing can top a metal strainer. Had I known this I could have registered for "baby toys" at Williams Sonoma.

Shape Up

Alright.  So The Boy is 1.  And you know what that means, right?  It means his mother must get into shape.  Not just as in "Well, she had a baby a year ago and doesn't look too bad" shape.  No no no.  It means that she must fit into jeans a size smaller than before she got pregnant, miraculously eradicate a mid-section full of excess skin and build arm muscles rivaling Linda Hamilton's "Terminator" guns (wow, I'm really dating myself with that reference).

I know what you're thinking.  You're thinking, "Mrs. Jarcy, those expectations are unrealistic.  You really should be thanking your lucky stars you fit into your pre-pregnancy jeans and call it a day."

NONSENSE I say!  I will accomplish the impossible, I will I will!  I'm doing Pilates 3-5 days a week, walking sporadically, cutting back to a few glasses of wine every other day and consuming only two cookies after lunch!  Tonight I went above and beyond and ate carrots for dinner!  Carrots, for goddess sake!!!

So there, it is just a matter of time when these skinny jeans won't be as ill-fitting as O.J's bloody glove (wow, could I be any older?) and I will be the MILF I always knew I could be.  Now where's that ranch dressing?  That would garnish these carrots perfectly...

The Big One

The Boy is 1!  I can't believe it!  I think he had a good time at his party, I know we did!
